ABOUT ABOUT

Join us for a Walk With A Doc | Just Walk program on the Greenbelt Connector starting at Fort Hunter Park.  The walk will be approximately 2-miles in length, but it is a well-marked path and you can choose to do as much or as little as you would like.

Date: Saturday, February 5

Meet Up Time: 11:00 a.m.

Meet Up Location: Heckton Church at the end of the Fort Hunter Parking Lot where the Greenbelt Connector begins.

This Walk With A Doc | Just Walk program is designed to provide some general health information and a moderately-paced walk with the fellowship of others. The walk is FREE, but we ask that you pre-register so we know how many participants to expect.

The walk leader will be Dr. Robert Little. Dr. Little graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1967. Following a rotating internship in Philadelphia, he joined the Public Health Service and served at an Indian hospital in Browning Montana for two years. While in Montana he had many opportunities to hike in Glacier National Park and he learned to ski with his wife, Bjorg. One of his 3 children was born while he was there. Next, he took a residency in Family Medicine in Syracuse, NY before coming to Harrisburg where he became a founding physician at Hamilton Health Center along with the late Dr. Walter Kirker.

In 1988, along with his 4 partners, he started a private practice on North Progress Ave, Harrisburg. Later he worked for Pinnacle Health for 15 years before retiring from Family Practice in 2020.  Now he enjoys bike riding, hiking, pickleball, and gardening.  And spending time with his wife of 55 years and visiting his 3 children and 6 grandchildren when he can.

This is a rain or shine event; however, if there is snow or ice we may need to cancel the walk for everyone's safety. If this should be necessary, we would let you know at least 1-hour prior to the event via the email address you use for registration.

We encourage you to come out and join the walk for as long or as little as you are able.

Things to Know Before you Go:

  • The walk is on a paved surface; however, there may be some slightly uneven terrain depending on previous snow accumulations.
  • Dress for the weather and wear comfortable supportive shoes.
  • You may want to bring water or snacks.
  • You may want to bring a hat, sunglasses, gloves, etc.
  • There is adequate parking available at the park.  Please park near the Heckton Church on the "river side" of Fort Hunter Park which will be our meet-up location.
  • Restroom facilities are available in the parking area near the playground facilities.
  • This route is typically handicapped-accessible, but winter weather conditions may impact the terrain.

This walk is being organized by Penbrook Borough Walk With A Doc group, Susquehanna Township Walk With A Doc group, Capital Area Greenbelt Association, and Dauphin County Parks & Recreation Department Park Rx Program. This is part of the Park Rx series of programs sponsored by Highmark Blue Shield.
