ABOUT ABOUT

Join us for a Walk with a Doc on the Greenbelt Connector starting at Fort Hunter Park.  The walk will be approximately 2 miles in length, but it is a well-marked path and you can choose to do as much or as little as you would like. The pathway is paved and wheelchair accessible.

Meet Up Location: Heckton Church at the end of the Fort Hunter Parking Lot where the Greenbelt Connector begins.

This Walk With A Doc program is designed to provide some general health information and a moderately-paced walk with the fellowship of others. It is an educational program and not meant to replace the advice of your physician. The walk is FREE, but we ask that you pre-register so we know how many participants to expect.

Walk Leader: Dr. Mack Ruffin of Penn State Health

WalkTopic: to be determined closer to the program date.

About Dr. Ruffin: Family Medicine for Penn State Health. Professor and Chair, Department of Family and Community Medicine and Professor, Department of Public Health Sciences.

This is a rain-or-shine walk. If there are thunderstorms, heavy downpours, or other severe weather conditions we would cancel the walk and notify you by email 1 hour before the scheduled program start time.

We encourage you to come out and join the walk for as long or as little as you are able.

Things to Know Before You Go:

  • The walk is on a paved surface; however, there may be some slightly uneven terrain depending on previous snow accumulations.
  • Dress for the weather and wear comfortable supportive shoes.
  • You may want to bring water or snacks.
  • You may want to bring a hat, sunglasses, gloves, etc.
  • There is adequate parking available at the park.  Please park near the Heckton Church on the "river side" of Fort Hunter Park which will be our meet-up location.
  • Restroom facilities are available in the parking area near the playground facilities.
  • This route is typically handicapped-accessible, but winter weather conditions may impact the terrain.
  • Check your email 1 hour before the scheduled walk time for any weather-related updates.

This walk is being organized by Penbrook Borough, Susquehanna Township Recreation & Parks, Capital Area Greenbelt Association, and Dauphin County Parks & Recreation Department. A Park Rx wellness program sponsored by Highmark and supported by Penn State Health
