ABOUT ABOUT

Learn about the art of origami in this class conducted by The Chinese Cultural and Art Institute of Harrisburg. The process of origami (creating art with folded paper) has been in place for thousands of years and the process of folding was applied to other materials before paper was invented, such as cloth or leather.

This is a hands-on class where you will create a 3-dimensional hanging paper ball using paper cutting and origami techniques. Instruction and all materials will be provided as part of the class fee, and the project is yours to take home at the end of the session. This class is appropriate for adults or children aged 13 & older.

The act of folding paper can decrease anxiety and help to develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and mental concentration. The use of your hands directly stimulates areas of the brain. Origami is used in various therapeutic settings, including art therapy and in stroke and injury rehabilitation.

This is a Park Rx program sponsored by Highmark Blue Shield.
