ABOUT ABOUT

This class is being offered in conjunction with the Chinese Cultural & Arts Institute.

The Chinese Drum plays a very important role in ancient wars and in celebrating many festivals. Drumming was also used as an accompaniment for the lion dance. However, besides creating volume and expressing momentum, it plays a key role in the control of rhythm. In the past, this drumming mainly focused on training the basic skills of and listening to the rhythm of the drums. For the class, we will extend this to show different types of drumming with various movements and changes that have developed into different works. This will be a hands-on class where you'll get to give it a try!

Appropriate for school-age children and adults.

Wear comfortable clothing and footwear. You may want some bug spray. The class will take place under cover of the West Pavilion but may be moved to an inside room if there is severe inclement weather expected. We would notify you via email shortly before the class start time if a change of location is necessary.
